Ficker Cup 2018

Day 1: A good start for the team here in California winning 4 out of 6 races in the first round robin, with a double round robin into semi finals set to be the format with the top 2 teams advancing to the Congressional Cup. The team is working well and ironing out crew work and roles on the boat as our practice session on Thursday was cut short due to heavy wind.

Day 2: Lighter conditions greeted the team for the racing on day two, but the team sailed well continuing to refine and improve as the day went on. At the end of the day the team found themselves in 3rd place with one more race to go on Sunday.

Day 3: Light air again was the forecast for the final day of racing in Long Beach. The team came out swinging to win their final race of the second round robin and secure a spot in the semi finals. In the Semi Finals America's Cup team American Magic led by Dean Barker chose Leonard Takahashi leaving Riptide to face off with Sweden's Johnie Berntsson. Unfortunately the semi finals didn't go Riptide's way, as we had glimpsed in the round robin Johnie's speed was to much to over come. A near identical situation occurred in the other semi final with American Magic advancing to the finals. This left Riptide in the petit finals against Leonard Takahashi. The team won the first race convincingly before a slight stumble in race 2. The team found their form once again for the final race of the petit finals to earn 3rd place on the 2018 Ficker Cup podium.

This result would not have been possible without the hard work and determination of this amazing crew.
